The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments and Steven Player (dancer/actor/musician) return to Brecon with The Trumpet Marine Project, featuring the long-lost and much neglected trumpet marine. This extraordinary two-metre tall, one-stringed instrument was played by nuns over hundreds of years and later, in the 17th and 18th centuries, was heard in taverns and theatres throughout Europe. The concert includes the world premiere of Orlando Gough’s C-DanCe, commissioned for The Society of Strange & Ancient Instruments by Chris Butler on behalf of the The Early Music Shop.

The Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments imagine the young Bach stopping for the night in a rowdy tavern where he happens upon an extraordinary entertainment – a rare concert of four trumpets marine and other exotic musical instruments. Join him for this re-imagining of a performance like no other, first heard in the Fleece Tavern, London, in 1674.
