Hamburg Ebb and Flow - German Connections

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the port city of Hamburg stood at the crossroads of trade and culture in northern Europe. It was a place where musicians met, exchanged ideas, and set out again on new journeys—much like the tides that rise and fall in its famous harbour, as depicted by Telemann "Hamburger Ebb’ und Fluth" (Hamburg Ebb and Flow).

This programme explores the musical connections between five composers: Telemann, Buxtehude, Handel, Mattheson and Bach. Through their works, we trace a web of influence and friendship that radiated from Hamburg across Germany and beyond.

Programme:

Dieterich Buxtehude (c1637-1707)
Trio Sonata in c minor, BuxWV 262

Georg Philipp Telemann

Trio Sonata for Recorder and Violin in a minor from Essercizii musici,  TWV 42:a4\

Johann Mattheson (1681-1764)

Suite VII in Bb major from Pièces de Clavecin

Georg Philipp Telemann

Cannon Sonata I in G major, TWV 40:118

George Frideric Handel (1685-1759)

Passacaille from Sonata in G major, HWV 399, Op.5-4

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Organ Trio Sonata in D major (originally in Eb major), BWV525

Duration: 60 minutes without an interval.
